An Early Season Lament, and How I Got Over It

It was the best of times, and the worst of times. My first ecstatic days on snow came with an unwanted side order of tired legs, sore muscles and a big helping of ski-boot-feet. Not being the quitting type, an aching body couldn’t stop me from booting up for daily runs, but with an impatience for the day my body would again be used to the joy of skiing.

In hopes of speeding that process up, I tried out Yoga for Skiers and Riders, a new class at a beautifully remodeled space in the Inn at Stratton Mountain. Yes, it was hard after a long day at the mountain, and yes, I felt miles better by the end of it.

The class is designed to relax, stretch and strengthen the muscles that every skier and snowboarder uses (and sometimes abuses). Our instructor, Jo, led us through a series of movements that engaged the core, worked the upper body, and at last, stretched my stiff legs and hips. I was tired by the end of it (to be fair, I was tired at the beginning too), but when I woke up the next morning I knew that it was more than worth it.

I was ready to suit up, boot up and click in and tackle the mountain another day.

Can I get an O-M?

Child's Pose: one of my favorites for a good stretch - it's almost like lying down!

Yoga for Skiers and Riders is now offered in the Living Room, a new fitness class space in the Inn at Stratton Mountain. It’s gorgeous, relaxing and even has a fireplace. See the Living Room schedule on Stratton.com.
