5 Effortless Ways to “Unplug” this Fall

Let’s take time to disconnect from our devices and reconnect with the outdoors. Swap the liking for hiking, the clicking for apple picking and email sending for family time spending. Start your digital detox with these activities, and unplugging will leave you rejuvenated to start the fall season.

Discover foliage at new heights

Catch a ride on the Stratton gondola and before you know it you’ll be ogling at the fiery hues of the Vermont fall foliage.  Take a leisurely hike to the Stratton fire tower, the intersection of the Appalachian and Long Trails, and the tallest point in southern Vermont for unparalleled views of surrounding mountains.

Get moving

Run, walk, hike, bike. Whatever peaks your interest, it’s easy to stay active and immerse yourself in the Vermont wilderness. Fall in the green mountain state brings cooler temperatures, ideal for challenging endeavors like the North Face Race to the Summit . Foliage viewing is prime on the Stratton race route for the dog friendly Heels to Paws 5K . Breathe in the fresh mountain air with adventure rentals – kayaks, paddle boards, mountain bikes – at First Run Ski Shop in the Village.

Taste Vermont

columbusday_beerpour_141011Beer. It’s pretty much  staple in Vermont, and for a good reason. Taste from a selection of over 100 craft brews at Brewfest, many brewed right here in Vermont. Flavors we’re excited for include Harpoon’s UFO Pumpkin (duh) , Champlain Orchard’s Macintosh Maple and Northsire’s Spiced Pear Pilsner. Yearning for some grub? Grab a few samples of chili at the Chili Cook-Off and vote for your favorite. Dig into a bucket (yes, I said a bucket) of wings at the Green Door Pub or try out the gift from the nacho gods –  ahi nachos at the the Firetower.

Say “Om”

No technology needed to channel your inner yogi. Take foliage peeping to the next level with a yoga class at the summit of southern Vermont’s tallest peak, test your mettle in power yoga or stretch it out at yoga flow.

Get artsy

No prior experience is needed to craft your own glass creation at Manchester Hot Glass. Experts will guide you through the glassblowing process – where you have full creative reign to pick your color and shape (I recommend the wavy bowl or pint glass). Perhaps try a different art form -the art of relaxation. Chill out, unplug and rejuvenate with an exfoliating facial or deep tissue sweetish massage from the Day Spa in the Village.

And remember…
