Destination Weddings: Tie The Knot In Southern Vermont

Picture this: you and your partner wake up to a breath-taking sunrise towering over the highest peak in Southern Vermont. The robins are chirping, not a cloud in the sky, and today is your wedding day. You head to the Village for a bite to eat – sit down at Benedict’s or grab a quick snack at the deli? (we hear their apple cider donuts are to die for) Afterwards, head to the Training and Fitness Center for a quick workout or take a hike up to Mid-Mountain before getting the big day started. Before you know it, you will find yourselves face to face on our scenic yoga deck overlooking the rolling green mountains saying your wedding vows and starting a new life together.

We realize your wedding day can be a stressful one, and that is why we highly recommend Stratton as your destination wedding venue. Vermont in the summertime is extremely relaxing being that we are not “in season”. The crowds dissipate due to there being no skiing or snowboarding, as does that brutal New England winter weather. There is lots to do on-resort and in the surrounding areas; here are some of our personal winners.

Mountain Top Yoga

Find your zen at the highest peak in southern Vermont. Our yoga deck is located at the Summit and overlooks the rolling green mountains of southern VT, the perfect setting for a relaxing morning yoga class. Mountain Top Yoga classes take place on most Saturdays and Sundays throughout the summer. We provide yoga mats, or you can bring your own. The yoga deck doubles as a ceremony venue which is extremely popular amongst our guests who are here for their special day.

Scenic Lift Rides

Take a mellow trip to the top and marvel at the gorgeous views Vermont has to offer. Our Scenic Lift Rides run almost every Saturday and Sunday of the summer season, with the exception of a few special events that call for closing the gondola. The trip up takes about 15 minutes, you can then get out at the top terminal and walk around the summit area, taking in the views and maybe even your ceremony venue. If you really want to maximize your experience, hike to the Fire Tower where arguably the best views on the mountain can be found. After you are done checking things out, you hop right back on the gondola and take a 15 minute ride down to the base area.

Kayaking and Stand Up Paddle Boarding

Looking for something that will get your blood pumping a little more? Give First Run a call and rent yourselves either a Kayak, a Stand Up Paddle Board, or both! There are plenty of places around the mountain to paddle around, though you will pick your equipment up at the Golf Course which has a beautiful pond you can drop your Kayak or Paddle Board into. If you have a large group, this could be the perfect option for the morning after or the day before the wedding.

Village Shopping and Dining

We could go on and on about all of the retail and dining options available in the Village, but we will do our best to keep this short and to the point. Retail wise, there is something for everyone. From high-quality garments at Dashing Bear, to hiking gear at First Run, and everything else in between, you are bound to find something you or your partner love. For dining, Verde is a great choice for a quiet, ambient dinner date offering a limited menu with delectable Mediterranean offerings. For breakfast, stop in at Benedict’s for a sit-down meal or hit the Stratton Market and Deli and grab a quick sandwich to-go. Check out our Village page for all of our retail and dining options.

Mountain Biking

If you and your partner are already into mountain biking, then you’re in luck. We continue to build up our Bike Park year after year, adding new trails and polishing the pre-existing ones. If you aren’t experienced bikers, no worries. We offer 2 hour bike lessons where one of our skilled instructors will show you the ropes, from start to finish, and potentially help you and your significant other find a new, life-long hobby that you can always come back and do at Stratton.

Golf

Hit the links with your partner or your group at our 27-hole championship golf course located not even 5 minutes from the mountain just a short-ways down the access road. Tee off into a beautiful view of the mountain, play your rounds, and afterwards hit The Green Apron for a casual lunch. The course is opened 7 days a week in the summertime, with the season usually starting around May and ending in October.

These are just a handful of things among a whole ton more to do on and around the resort during the summer season. In summary, we feel as though Stratton is the ideal destination wedding venue due to it’s relaxing nature, the abundance of activities available, and it’s overall beauty that fits perfect with a wedding.
