Stratton Seasonal Program Blog – March 26 Edition

Hello Everyone,

I want to start with a huge thank‑you to everyone who supported our Tribute for Matt Erickson on March 14th. Seeing so many of you brave the elements and come together for The Big Ski was truly inspiring. While we didn’t get an exact count, I’m confident we had well over 300 people join us, a powerful reminder of the impact Matt had on our community.

Our marketing team put together an incredible video capturing the spirit of the day. Click the image below to watch.

Following The Big Ski, we gathered in the Sun Bowl to share stories, memories, and moments that captured who Matt was to all of us. During the gathering, Kathy Brennan, PSIA/AASI‑Eastern CEO, joined us and delivered an incredible announcement: enough funds had already been raised to establish a scholarship in Matt’s honor!

Kathy shared that in her time as CEO, she has never seen such an outpouring of support, especially in such a short period of time. I think that speaks volumes about who Matt was and the deep, positive impact he had on our entire community. We are all so fortunate to have had him in our lives, and thanks to this scholarship and the mentorship he offered so many of us, his influence will continue to guide and inspire for years to come.

Thank you for everything, Matt. We miss you!

Thanking Your Coaches

Many families have asked how best to show appreciation for their child’s coach. While gratuity is never required, it is always appreciated. Most families choose to tip 20-25% of the program cost per child, which can be given directly to the coach at the end of the season.

If your season has already wrapped up, or your coach has finished for the year, feel free to reach out. I’m happy to help coordinate.

Note: Cub Club has a different gratuity structure. Please connect with Kristi or Val for more details.

Looking Ahead: Next Winter

As planning for next season begins, many of you have reached out about finding the right program for your child. I recommend checking in with your child’s coach and program supervisor; they’re the best resource for insight and recommendations.

If your child is interested in transitioning into a competitive program (Alpine Racing, Allegro, Freestyle, or Freeski), please contact the appropriate SWSC manager:

2025–2026 Seasonal Programs

For families eager to secure their spot for next winter, we’re currently working on our program offerings, schedules, and pricing. Our goal is to open sales by August 1st for returning families, followed by general registration.

Cub Club

Hello Cub Clubbers!

As another Cub Club season comes to a close, we want to start with a huge thank you. Thank you for skiing with us all season long. Thank you for your compassion and patience as we navigated this year in Matt’s absence. Thank you.

With just a couple of weekends left, we’ve planned a few fun events to wrap up the season on a high note. We hope you’ll join us!

🥚 Spring Eggstravaganza – March 22
Get ready for an egg‑citing adventure! Our annual egg hunt will take place throughout the Village during the morning session. The exact start time will be posted on the board. Parents are welcome to join in the fun!
🍦 Ice Cream Social – March 29
What better way to end the season than with ice cream? Join us for our annual ice cream party at 2:00 PM in the Cub Club room. Parents, come celebrate with us!
A quick note: we won’t be heading back out on the snow after the party, so come ready to relax and indulge.

Looking ahead to next year? We’d love to have you back! If your child is aging out or you’re considering other programs and would like guidance, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Kristi, Katie, and Val are always happy to help. Just find us at the end of the day.

Many of you have also asked about tipping the staff. Ron has put together a list of each child’s coaches and their ski days, along with Venmo details for those who would like to share their appreciation.

Thank you again for an amazing season. We can’t wait to see you all again next winter! ❄️⛷️

Cross Cub

Hello Stratton Cross Cubbers!

Can you believe we’re heading into the last few weekends of the program? We kicked off March this past with a fan favorite, the Parent vs Child Race. It was so fun watching the kids show off their skills and even give the parents a run for their money.

We hope you can join us for these final weekends of the season as we wrap things up with a few more fun events to celebrate another great year.

  • March 21 – Hot Dogs on the Hill
We’ll take our lunch break at the top of Emerald Forest, where coaches will serve hot dogs, snacks, and drinks to all Cross Cubbers.
Update: Due to the lack of snow in Emerald Forest, we will be moving this event to the Junior School patio.
  • March 22 – Annual Scavenger Hunt
Always a hit with the kids, teamwork, skiing, and lots of laughs.
  • March 28 – Ice Cream Social Last Event of the Season
Join us at 2:00 pm on the Junior School Patio to celebrate a great season together.
Please note: Cross Cubbers will not return to skiing after the party.

Despite some extra cold days throughout the season, we had a fantastic time. The children had a lot of fun, built confidence, and made great strides in their skiing! We hope we met your expectations this season, and that we may have even exceeded them.

Thank you for a wonderful ski season and for allowing us to teach and ski with your children. Have a safe, healthy summer and we look forward to seeing you next ski season!

Synergy

Hi Synergy Families,

February has flown by with amazing snow and with so many learning opportunities. Bear Down with the giant whales, Vertigo with the best snow in the woods, the , and the boardercross course on Big Ben have been voted as Synergy fan favorites thus far. Throughout the first and second half of President’s weekend, our groups focused on the following fundamentals of skiing: flexing (absorbing) and extending throughout different turn shapes, using a variety of pole plants for bumps, woods, and carving to initiate a new turn, and beginning work with upper body separation. With spring skiing upon us, we will all be practicing the tactic of anticipating constantly changing terrain while planning out the next 2-3 turns ahead. This is useful particularly in the bumps and trees, as we look for features of the trail to execute, enhance, or help out with our turns.

As the temperature begins to increase, let’s review some tips and tricks for skiing in warmer, sunnier weather. 1. Stay hydrated. 2. Wear SPF/sunscreen. 3. Dress in light, thin sweat-wicking layers! 4. Don’t forget your lift pass if you switch jackets!! I often see coats unzippered or wide open in the spring, which can be a safety concern when getting on and off of the lift. Any loose clothing or flapping cloth/material can get caught on the lift. Please help remind our young skiers to also keep their jackets zipped on the chairlift and if they have to make any adjustments; wait to do so either before getting on the lift or right after they get off of the lift. This is also a friendly reminder for skiers to keep their gloves either on or have some kind of attachment around wrists or jackets. It can also be tempting to wear short sleeved shirts or leave skin showing; if you fall your skin will not appreciate scrapes and burns from ice or snow.

I have also received several questions about gratuities at the end of the season, so here is my suggestion: Think about what you would tip at the end of a daily ski lesson and then multiply that by the number of days your student(s) has skied with their coach. If your student skied with more than one coach, think about how many days they spent with each coach and apply the same from above. If you need any additional help, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

After skiing around with all of our groups, I can proudly share how much growth and confidence I see from each of our Synergy participants. It’s a testament to the dedication of our students, coaches, and collaboration from our awesome caregivers. Thank you so much for joining us this season. I speak on behalf of all of the Synergy coaches when I say that we can’t wait to do this all again next season!

Lastly, we are always looking for ways to improve Synergy for the next season, so if you have any suggestions, concerns, comments, etc., send them to either myself or Tony. We greatly appreciate your feedback and your support! Again, thank you so much for an incredible season! Have a safe and healthy off-season, and best of luck with your next adventures.

Best,

Sarah Kneip (and Waffles the Penguin)

AAMP

Greetings, AAMPers,

The last month was quite eventful to say the least! The AAMP coaches delivered so many new and exciting adventures, we even had Richard standing on his head asking for more!

What could have brought so much excitement that people were standing on their heads? Of course, Coach Sari giving an incredible lesson in the trees!

Since our last update, we have played with short radius turns and skill blending. I am willing to bet everyone found these skills very helpful navigating the trees and bumps. The AAMP coaches are primed and ready to continue to deliver more fun honing your skills through the end of the season.

Planning ahead – You won’t want to miss our end of season pizza social scheduled for Saturday March 21st at 3:45pm at Landmark in the village. This is always a great social event and this year we are including a new twist. Come and cheer on your fellow AAMPers as the coaches present various life altering AAMPer awards!

As they say in France – À bientôt! – “see you soon”
