Stratton Mountain’s Virtual Pond Skim Challenge

Spring has sprung in the Green Mountains, meaning only one thing, it’s Pond Skim time! This year’s Pond Skim takes on a different format, as we practice safe social habits, and look to support those who need an extra hand.

Together with the Stratton Foundation, our 2020 virtual Pond Skim is a chance for those at home to get creative and help out the local Stratton community. Put on your wackiest costume, break out your skis or boards, and film or photo your best at home Pond Skim. Challenge your friends, spread the word, and feel your best about laughing in the sun, and helping those who need an extra ray of sunshine during these times.

WHY A VIRTUAL POND SKIM:
The pond skim is one of the favorite events of the season. Gathering on Suntanner and hooting and hollering as your friends, kids, coworkers, or your favorite costumed riders drop into the sink or skim gauntlet of the ice-cold pool is something we all enjoy.

Together with the Stratton Foundation, this year’s virtual pond skim is bringing our mountain family together through assistance from the COVID-19 Relief Fund. The ask is simple: an optional donation matched by Stratton up to $5,000 will help to pay for food distribution within the community. All donations will receive a tax receipt from the Feed The Community Go Fund Me.

In partnership with the Stratton Foundation, Stratton Resort launched the Feed the Community initiative, providing a first-wave of 12,000 meals, working through the local town distributions systems, to ensure food is getting to those that need it the most. Food is safely prepared and packaged by core staff from multiple resort departments and delivered to institutions working the front lines to deliver to local families in need.

To date, over 7,000+ meals have been donated to the local community by Stratton Resort through the Feed The Community initiative.

SCHEDULE:
Use the week to get creative and film or photograph your virtual Pond Skim submissions. Submissions and donations will close May 16th at midnight. Help us spread the word by challenging your friends, and family. For the community’s viewing pleasure, be sure to tag @strattonresort and #StrattonPondSkim so we can find your submissions!

SUBMISSIONS:
Pond skimmers have open guidelines for how they want to participate. An example of a submission may consist of gearing up in spring ski or snowboard attire, a costume, etc, and having a bucket of water dumped on the rider. With no true guidelines, the sky is the limit, and creativity is king. Corresponding donations can be completed through Feed The Community Go Fund Me.

The first 125 donations through the Go Fund Me will be sent a 2020 Pond Skim T-shirt. Be sure to tag @strattonresort and use the hashtag #StrattonPondSkim on your social media so we can see them all!

POND SKIM AWARDS:
This year’s pond skim is a community effort to support those who need a little extra help during these times in the local Stratton community. Combining efforts makes everyone a winner in the 2020 Virtual Pond Skim, and we thank you all for your support and participation in the event.
